Re- owning your skin (Winter 2020)
In our current western society the amount of attention towarrds beauty standards has increased a lot.
Along with this comes a very comparing and self critical view of the outward appearances, for example regarding hair, wrinkles and marks on the body.
The project “Re-Owning your Skin” addresses this with a series of garments.
Through the use of optical illusions, such as pleating techniques or lenticular foils these pieces of fashion instantly confront the wearer and viewers with skin impurities, unwanted body hair or stretch marks and show that there is no “ideal” or “normal”.
The impurities chosen followed examples of struggles people surrounding the team members, or even the team members themselves, have had in the past.
Re - owning your skin was exhibited during the “Ich und Alles um mich herum” Exhibit (2022) at Viktoria Wien.
The project was created in collaboration with Julian Paula and Lorenz Eckl.
